Here’s a quick “recipe” or guide to growthese vegetables in laundry baskets:

 What You Need:

Laundry baskets with holes (for drainage)

Liner (optional: landscape fabric or an old cotton cloth)

Potting soil (rich in organic matter)

Compost or natural fertilizer

Seeds or seedlings of:

Potatoes

Tomatoes

Onions

Lettuce

Cucumbers

Peppers

Sunny space (balcony, garden, rooftop, etc.)

Steps:

Prepare the Basket:

Line the inside if needed to hold soil but allow drainage.

Make sure there are holes at the bottom for excess water.

Fill with Soil:

Add a mix of compost and potting soil.

Fill about 2/3 full for root crops like potatoes; fill completely for others.

Planting:

Potatoes: Plant 3-4 seed potatoes, cover with 10 cm of soil. Add more soil as they grow.

Tomatoes: Plant one seedling deep, burying 2/3 of the stem for strong roots.

Onions: Place onion sets or seedlings 5 cm apart.

Lettuce: Scatter seeds or plant seedlings 10 cm apart.

Cucumbers: 2-3 seeds near the center. Provide a small trellis or stake.

Peppers: Plant one seedling in the middle.

Watering:

Keep the soil moist but not soggy.

Water more during hot weather.

Sunlight:

Place in a sunny spot (6-8 hours of sun per day).

Care:

Add compost every 2-3 weeks.

Prune tomatoes and cucumbers if needed.

Watch for pests.
