Cheesy Bacon Dip – The Ultimate Comfort Appetizer

Looking for a comforting appetizer that will have your guests scraping the bowl clean? This Cheesy Bacon Dip is the answer. With layers of rich, gooey cheddar, savory bacon, and the creamy tang of sour cream and cream cheese, it’s an instant classic. Whether you’re hosting a holiday gathering, planning game day snacks, or just need something delicious for movie night, this dip brings bold flavor and irresistible texture to the table.

Ingredients (Serves 6–8)

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (sharp or medium recommended)

8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened

1 cup sour cream

½ cup mayonnaise

6–8 slices bacon, cooked until crispy and crumbled

2 green onions, finely chopped

1 tsp garlic powder

½ tsp smoked paprika (optional, adds a nice depth of flavor)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

Crackers, tortilla chips, or sliced baguette, for serving

Instructions

1. Prepare the Bacon

Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into small pieces.

2. Preheat the Oven

Set your oven to 180°C (350°F) and lightly grease a small baking dish or oven-safe skillet.

3. Mix the Creamy Base

In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise. Mix until smooth and well blended.

4. Add Flavor and Texture

Stir in the shredded cheddar, crumbled bacon (reserving a small amount for topping), green onions, garlic powder, smoked paprika (if using), and a pinch of salt and pepper.

5. Assemble and Bake

Transfer the mixture to your prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly, then top with the reserved cheddar cheese and a sprinkle of the remaining bacon bits.

Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the dip is hot, bubbling, and lightly golden on top.

6. Serve Hot

Remove from the oven and serve warm with crackers, chips, or bread slices. Garnish with extra green onions for a pop of freshness.

Method Variations

Oven-Baked Method

This method gives you a perfectly crisp, golden top and intensifies the flavor as the cheese bakes and bubbles. It’s the best choice for maximum indulgence and presentation.

Slow Cooker Method

Prefer a hands-off option? Place all ingredients in a slow cooker on low heat for 2–3 hours, stirring occasionally. Keep it warm throughout your event without any fuss.

Stovetop Method

Short on time? Heat the mixture in a large saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until everything is fully melted and combined. Great for last-minute prep!
